These are the 4 common mistakes business owners make when writing their own promo copy…
#1: Too much talk about the process/how
I know you love the modalities you use in your work and that you’re trained and certified.
But this isn’t the prime reason people buy!
So, instead of your sales copy focusing on the tapping scripts, body realignment methods and high-performance coaching sessions you deliver, tell your readers about the benefits of your processes and how the results will deliver what they want and need.
#2: Talking across your reader by referring to ‘them’.
When I say:
“The problem some business owners have is they write in a way that the reader feels disconnected from.”
Do you hear me talking to you about a third person, not you?
Whereas, when I say:
“As a business owner, you must write directly to your reader!”
Do you hear me talking to you, about you?
#3: Your sales page copy should be as long as the sales conversation would be with a new prospect.
If you’d expect to spend an hour on the phone with a new prospect to describe what you are selling, answer their questions and soothe their concerns before they’ll feel ready to buy, then 200 words of sales copy isn’t gonna cut it!
#4: The way you were taught to write at school was very formal – stilted.
“I write with reference to your recent communication.”
Compelling copy is conversational in style.
Your readers hear your words spoken, in your voice.
Writing that gets you great grades in your English exam doesn’t sell.
Words that sell fly in the face of much of what school taught you about writing.
