When a thought pops into my head of something that needs doing, one of 3 things must happen immediately

I do it.

I delegate it

Or I email it to myself/add it as an appointment in my diary for a time I know I’ll be able to deal with it the moment I see the alert.

(Unactioned emails are left unread and outstanding notifications make my brain vibrate. I need zero for my mind to be calm.)

If none of those things happen, within seconds it will fall out of my main memory and file itself away into a temporary folder, not reappearing for days or weeks

If I delegate it, my team know to send me a ‘done’ reply so I can immediately send it to my memory trash can, upon which time I won’t think about it again.

Until that is received, it’ll randomly bug me but not frequently or timely enough to be useful – like it the task is to organise x a birthday present, I will remember at 3am tomorrow and a week after their birthday when I will panic that it was forgotten.

When I lived alone, I would at some point remember I needed to load the washing machine and start the cycle.

The thought that I needed to unload it in an hour would send itself to the temporary folder.

And reappear at 3am when I’d decide I will do it tomorrow

Then I would remember it 3 days later – when the washing would smell damp and need to go through the cycle again.

Having done that, i would pledge that this time I’d be organised and get it out of the machine when it had finished.

Obviously, that never happened and the whole routine would begin again.

My record was 4 cycles!

The only other way I can remember to keep reciting the task to myself over and over until I can do it – like when I remember something important while I’m in the bath

But then… on the flip side I have an INCREDIBLE memory for recalling a conversation or a post I read, or where I was when that thing happened for YEARS!

I’m sure some people think I’ve been stalking them and keeping intricate notebooks of info when they’ll share a story about something that happened to them ten years ago, and I’ll be able to recall their exact post and hat image they used with it!

Mwahahaha
