We lost two of our good friends from Facebook in the last week.
What’s happened to them should be a stark wake up call for everyone.
If you are friends with Sam Bearfoot and G Sabini Roberts on Facebook, you may have noticed their absence from your newsfeed recently.
Both of them have had their access to the book of face cut off.
Sam, because the AI mods deemed her post to be in breach.
G, because their account was accessed by a rogue third party.
(I’m avoiding writing the ‘H’ word so as not to trip a filter!)
For the love of all things yellow, please make this your wake up moment.
Assume it’s only a matter of time before you too are kicked off and take preventative action, NOW.
🚨Even if you have 2-Factor Authentication set up, you are potentially still vulnerable!
When you attempt to log in from a new device or browser, how do you approve the login?
❌Via an email?
❌Via text?
❌By clicking, ‘This is me’ from within your account on a logged in device?
🛑 STOP!
This is NOT the most secure option.
Do this instead…
✅ Download the Google Authenticator app from your App Store.
✅ Locate the 2-Factor Authenticator set up in settings > privacy.
✅ Copy the security key from the account you want to protect – i.e. Facebook, into the GA app
✅ Type the code from the GA app into the account you want to protect – i.e. Facebook
In future, every time you log in from an unrecognised browser or device, you’ll be asked to enter the code from your Google Authenticator app to be granted access.
Using the Google Authenticator app will make it much harder for the rogues to take over your account!
🚨If you make the majority of your income through Facebook or another social media platform, your business is at risk!
NOW is the time to start, grow and nurture your email list.
Without an email list, you are expecting a short term holiday let to be your forever home.
Email is where the majority of organic revenue is made today…
Yes, even though plenty of people want you to believe email is dead.
🚨And finally, the uncomfortable truth is that sites like Facebook do not give a single 💩 about keeping you as a customer.
So if you are booted off and your income relies on access to the platform, activate Plan B, ASAP – i.e. start a new account and move on, fast.
Put your everything into rebuilding then if you get your account back in a few months, bonus.
Please take a moment to sort the Authenticator app out now to add that extra layer of security.
Later might be too late.
