I want you to imagine that in your possession, you have a key to a vault filled with highly valuable coins.

However, they are only valuable to people who fit a very specific set of circumstances.

To everyone else, they are worthless.

You are tasked with finding the people who the coins are valuable to.

One thing that sets them apart is that they have been on holiday abroad recently.

To give yourself a good chance of finding them, you decide to set yourself up with a small exhibition stand in the arrivals hall at Heathrow Airport.

(Cruise ship terminals aren’t busy enough for this metaphor lol!)

As the crowd streams into the hall, they can’t see your stand as it’s tucked away in the corner and there’s a lot of people.

They can’t hear your announcements over the noise either.

How are you going to get heard?

By mingling in amongst the crowd and speaking with them individually to invite them to step over to your stand.

If your goal is to reach more people, make a bigger impact and generate more sales online, it’s not enough to simply build and decorate your stand (write your promo copy) and make announcements (post on social media and send emails) and hope your eager buyers spot you.

Most of your buyers aren’t seeing or hearing you.

How will you be heard

How could you get your message heard stuck in a corner at a busy arrivals gate?

You must mingle and have individual conversations (warm outreach) to guide your interested prospects back to the stand and invite them to buy the key to the golden coins.

The benefit of warm outreach over the stand at Heathrow is that the people in your online crowd know who you are.

You’re not a stranger to them.
