Today,16th July 2022, is my 12th anniversary of being in business – 2 days after being ‘released’ from a crappy temp job at an insurance company in Redhill (where I’d spent the entire time daydreaming about being a paid copywriter and working from home!)
The thought of getting another job made my heart sink, but fortunately my amazing hubby agreed to support me for 6 months to give my daydream a try… on the condition that if by the end of those 6 months I hadn’t replaced my £1,000 p/m part time salary, I’d have to get another job
This is more monumental than it sounds because when I’d moved in with him 15 months earlier, I had been out of work for 5 months, and didn’t work again for another 6 months. So he’d been supporting me all that time, and after only getting a wage for 8 months, I was asking for another period of support
But deep down inside, I KNEW I was going to make a success of this business, and that everything would be ok
Day 1 was spent creating a profile on Elance and bidding on jobs, because there was NO WAY I was EVER going to go back to being employed – and within 4 months, I’d met the earnings condition so I was safe lol – and that was purely from Elance work!
Then in September that year (2 months later), an email changed everything; it was the first time I’d realised that business owners pay people to use social media for them – when socialising online is something I’d been doing for 15 years whenever I wasn’t at work (and sometimes when I was too hehe!)
Again hubby came to the rescue when I needed £750 to get started, by letting me ‘borrow’ £750 from our wedding fund – as long as I put it back before the wedding (18 months later)
And here we are… 12 years on, and now he works with me, after I was able to ‘rescue’ him from a job that he hated last year! Good times! A nice full circle

Today I am celebrating 12 years of running a business from home, can I help you with yours?
