Over the bank holiday weekend, we really enjoyed spending time with Jamie, my brother in law who has been visiting us – showing him some of our beautiful island. Lord Sugar was here (on the island, not at our house!) on Saturday too having flown over to Bembridge on his plane.

All the best people are coming over to the royal island it seems 🙂

Anyway, this weekend, Jamie took the first steps towards living his dream. He was telling me how he dreams of coaching people who want to run their first half marathon (Jamie is a qualified personal trainer who has run many marathons himself), but wanted to start slowly, and develop his process by helping one person voluntarily.

So I coached him through putting the intention out there, and helped him write the Facebook post asking his friends if they wanted to volunteer – and it worked. He has his first trainee!

Now, without taking anything away from Jamie’s achievement, getting one (non paying) customer from one random Facebook post on your personal Facebook profile is easy. In Jamie’s case, the achievement came from him having the confidence to write the post… remember that on Friday, even stating his intention publicly and yielding his first trainee was still just a dream that he hoped “one day” he’d achieve.

But getting new paying clients regularly from posting on social media is much more difficult – and it’s the kind of achievement that very few small business owners enjoy – despite research showing that the average person spends 1.7 hours a day using social media sites!
