I know there are parts of your life that you are not talking about – your life experiences, decisions you’ve made, lessons you’ve learned.
Perhaps you feel embarrassed by them, or believe nobody wants to hear your story…
Before I started my business, I was declared bankrupt.
I’d worked in accounts since 3 days after I left school, eventually rising to the top of the career ladder, and gaining the highest level of qualification available from my professional body.
Many years experience, 4 years studying for the initial MAAT qualification, another year to get mt Practice licence, 5 years more to become a Fellow, and 5 years running a bookkeeping business, advising others on their accounting processes.
I was 38 when I was declared bankrupt and had to close the door on that 20 years’ experience, because I “couldn’t manage my own finances.”
Only a handful of people knew, so 18 months later, when I started this business, I thought the BR was my ‘shameful secret’… dreading the day that someone would discover it and ‘out me’.
I also believed that being disabled put me at a disadvantage in business – the things I had wrong with me meant that I wasn’t ‘normal’ and that people wanted ‘normal’.
So I tried to pretend the disabilities didn’t exist too.
Looking back, I cannot imagine how I thought I’d be able to hide them. When you meet me in person, the disabilities are pretty visible.
So what happened was, people would get to know me online, then they would meet a different version of me in person.
Incongruent.
Then one day, I decided to own it all – tell the stories myself. Everything I’ve experienced has made me who I am today.
Now, I’m a pretty open book.
Sharing my stories to help others.
Sharing to ‘edutain’ you and be of service – even the stuff that might make me look a bit silly. 🙂
You might not have disabilities that you don’t talk about nor a bankruptcy in your history that you feel embarrassment over.
But, I know there are parts of your life that you are not talking about.
Your life experiences, decisions you’ve made, lessons you’ve learned – they’re ALL valuable!
Right now, someone is experiencing the very thing you have. Your stories let them know they’re not alone.
Your stories demonstrate why you’re the right person to help them.
Your stories are the pieces that fit together to form the completed puzzle of YOU.
These pieces of your puzzle that you’re hiding – they’re your CLIENT ATTRACTION GOLD.
They’re why your audience will resonate with your story and be magnetically drawn to you.
They’re why they’ll LOVE you and RAVE about you to their friends.
And ultimately, they’re why they will INVEST PREMIUM FEES TO WORK WITH YOU!
Do you care enough about your tribe to WANT to help them?
Is your love for them and desire to help them, BIGGER than your fear of ‘being vulnerable?
Yes, I get that there are parts of your life you want to keep private.
I’m not saying you have to share EVERYTHING, but you can’t help people when you share NOTHING!
