5 things I do when I want to switch off from thinking about work and in the 2-3 hours before I go to bed.
1-Colouring:
I have the ‘Pigment’ colouring app on my iPad, and colour with the Apple Pencil.
I’m not a fan of intricate designs that you have to concentrate on though.
I prefer to colour bigger areas so I can let my mind drift.
2-Making up rhymes.
I’m no rapper and the rhymes are rubbish but when I’m watching TV I have this thing where, for every line of dialogue, I have this thing where I make up a sentence to rhymes with it.
If I have a tune in my head, I have to make the rhyme fit the song too.
And I’ll probably sing it as well, just for good measure.
3-Read fiction
It’s so good when you find a great book that you really get into, and you’re so lost in the story that you find yourself thinking about the characters.
Great books I have read recently are ‘House Party’ and ‘Good Neighbours’ by Mary Grand.
(They are set on the island too, bonus).
I also enjoy KL Slater (psychological thrillers), Cathy Glass (foster carer who tells the kids’ stories) and Melanie Blake (a soap star/celeb agent who has written two books about the stars and management of a fictional soap, set in Jersey.)
4-Watch Netflix (and Gaia)
We enjoy the box sets, but I am a pacer, not a binge-watcher so they take a while to get through.
When there’s lots of good drama on the mainstream channels, I prioritise those over the streamers.
I like watching shows with commercials as they give my brain a break from concentrating.
The Bold Type and Bling Empire are two series I love that we still have unwatched episodes for.
Saturday night is Gaia night.
We enjoy watching personal development-y documentaries that gives us a new perspective.
Transcendence is a series on Gaia with interesting episodes.
5-And finally, I adore the sugar puff smell of our little Miss Teddy chihuahua’s paws
So while she is snuggled up in the crook of my arm every evening, I indulge in a teeny sniff haha.
What do you do to shut your brain down?
