These are the 10 things I will always say no to…

#1 Every hour of our time has a value.

Do the maths – amount you want to make in the next 12 months, divided by number of weeks you want to work, divided by number of hours per week you want to work in  your business.

With that value in mind, you now get to choose whether hours away from the business are a cost or a financial, psychological, or emotional investment,

Hours spent travelling to a meeting that could be held over Zoom, and then recovering my energy because travel exhausts me is a cost.

#2 I have to watch my energy levels and every day I make choices about where I use my ‘spoons’.

Online is the world where I ‘live’ and thrive the most, and my mission is to help business owners enjoy the results and rewards of investing into their online audience.

I only take on a tiny number of retained consultancy/DFY clients, and only one or two at a time.

I want to use my limited energy for people who genuinely value their online audience, so through my expertise I help them increase their impact online – a world they enjoy being a part of.

#3 “Let’s do Zoom instead so I can see you to hear you” is how I respond to someone who wants a phone call.

Please never apologise for any of your perceived limitations.

Present the option that does work for you, assertively.

#4 If I feel a constriction in my body or boredom for a project, I don’t want the money.

This did cause conflict in the early days when we “needed” money and I was turning away work I wouldn’t enjoy or people I didn’t vibe with, but I have never wavered on this one.

This in my view is the definition of “heart-centred business”.

That’s not why I do it though.

I’m just not available for disliking my work since I once had a job that was full-time reconciliations and I hated it so much it made me ill.

#5: My most in flow way of working is getting from idea to implementation, fast.

That’s how I work in my business, and when I am hired to manage online launches, that’s the way of working I thrive in – the chaotic, new idea, get it done, move to the next thing.

I get frustrated in environments such as when I have been asked to build an opt-in page, get it to the point of deciding if it should be a one or two-step form, and it’s a decision that needs a week of research and careful consideration.

It’s not that I think my way is right or better, it’s that I know myself well enough to recognise working slowly is going to annoy me.

And when the person doesn’t thrive in the chaotic place of choosing one and running with it for now, my get it done ways are going to massively stress them out.

#6 I don’t like being told what to do, dislike weekly work appointments and even Zooms need an hour of recovery time.

Communicating by WhatsApp, Messenger, or Slack is bliss.

#7 I do not like alcohol, being around people when they have had more than one alcoholic drink, and I cannot think of one positive benefit of it, beyond that initial “ahhhhhh” feeling as you take a long sip of your first drink of an evening.

I don’t want to help sell something that I don’t see any need for.

#8 Ask me for my view and I’ll tell you my truth.

I’ll do it kindly but I’m not going to lie to you, even when it disadvantages me.

That’s how my ND brain rolls.

#9 If I HAVE to get up early because I have no other choice, then I will.

Otherwise, I’ll wake up when I wake up.

#10 Urgh, urgh, urgh.

Mango is the devil food that tries to trick me by looking like melon that I love!

Therefore, mango is a wrong’un!

What are you saying a HARD NO to?
