Well ok not the morning – I’m getting married to Bill on Friday! Fifteen months ago when we booked the date and venue Friday seemed like years ahead. The time has flown by and all of a sudden our big day is just three days away!
The past two weeks in particular have been a hive of activity sorting out the final details but we’re both stopping work today so we have two clear days to collect and deliver various items to the venue.
During the planning of our wedding, social media has played a huge role in sourcing suppliers. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some fantastic local businesses through Twitter and Word of Mouth Local – the Facebook page I set up which showcases the smaller local businesses in Redhill and Reigate. My wedding jewellery has been made by Chasing Beads and includes a bead which was especially designed for me to match our colour scheme. Our Videographer is Clare Jones from Family Film Co and we’re very excited that Ian Gray will be entertaining us all in the evening with his spectacular magic and illusions. All of these suppliers I originally met via social media. In fact, my fabulous network of fellow Social Media Managers have pooled their resources and arranged Ian to be there as a surprise for us. Many of the people in my network I only know through social media – what a really lovely gesture!
We’d love to have all of you at our wedding but our budget wouldn’t stretch far enough – such is the number of friends and business contacts we have made on social media. Instead we’d like to extend a virtual invitation to all of you to join us from wherever you are in the world!
In what may be a World first, there will be a live Twitter feed posting updates of events as they happen throughout the day which just may include a picture or two of me in a dress! If you have a Twitter profile you’ll also be able to @ mention the wedding profile and your message will display on a large projector screen on the wall while we are eating our meal and throughout the evening. Absent friends and family used to send Telegrams to be read out during the speeches – the 21st Century Telegram is a tweet!
