If you have been selling paid content video training in your online programs or membership site subscriptions for a while, and you’re looking to upgrade your video hosting option, then hosting your videos on Vimeo Pro is a great option.
I use Vimeo Pro because you can set tighter security settings than hosting on YouTube and these settings are shared with you below.
Follow the steps below to protect your paid online program videos in Vimeo. These are the security settings we now use to host my paid content on Vimeo.
These settings will prohibit downloading and restrict access to certain controls, making it much more difficult for your content to be fraudulently downloaded.
First, a heads up…
You must use Vimeo Pro to host any business videos on Vimeo. Vimeo Basic (free) and Vimeo Plus (£60/year) plans are strictly not for commercial use.
Vimeo Pro costs around £200/year (including VAT), but you can get 25% off your first year’s subscription when you click HERE.
How to upload your online program and membership site videos to Vimeo with enhanced privacy settings
Open Vimeo
Click the upload button, top right.
Locate the video you wish to upload and select ‘Hide this video from Vimeo’ in the Privacy drop down.
Enter the title, description, tags, language and content rating of your video, and save your settings.
When the upload is complete, click on ‘Go to video’.
Click on ‘Settings’.
Then select ‘Privacy’
Then edit the privacy settings as follows:
Who can see this video? This will already be set as ‘Hide this video from Vimeo.com’ as we edited the privacy earlier. It ensures that your video won’t appear anywhere publicly on Vimeo or be indexed by Google.
Where can this video be embedded? Select ‘Only on sites I choose’ and enter the URL of the website where you have installed your membership plugin, or your unique third party membership site software link.
E.g. I use CustomerHub for my membership site, and the link to my membership site is the URL I enter in this box.
Who can comment on this video? We have this set to ‘nobody’. If you allow comments, make sure you have someone or some time allocated to moderate any comments you receive. I just find it easier to not have them at all.
What can people do with this video? By default the ‘download it’ box is checked. Uncheck this box to disallow downloads of your video.
Enable video review page? This is an option for team members to review videos ahead of publishing. I always uncheck this box.
Save your settings.
That’s it. Simple, huh?
If you wish to upload a custom thumbnail for your video, click on ‘Basic’ in the left-hand side menu, and upload your new thumbnail image.
To embed your video into your membership site page, click on ‘Embed’ in the left-hand side menu, then edit the player settings as below:
Then, select ‘Get embed code’ and copy the code. Paste the embed code into the HTML area of your membership site page.
If you wish to edit the width or height of the embedded video, after you have pasted the embed code into your page, look for the width and height sizes inside the embed code:
I have my videos set to 640 width and 360 height. You can’t edit the code inside Vimeo though, only after you’ve pasted the code into the HTML area of your page.
You can’t edit the code inside Vimeo though, only after you’ve pasted the code into the HTML area of your page.
Now you can be sure that your paid online program or membership site content cannot be fraudently downloaded by your members.
