Have you just posted a new status update on your Facebook business page, and now you want to share it on your personal timeline so the business contacts you have added as friends can see it too?
(E.g. inviting people to book a free consultation with you)
Perhaps you’ve been asked to (or want to) share the post in a Facebook group you’re a member of?
(E.g. because it’s the one day of the week you’re allowed to promote your business in the group, and you know your ideal clients are also members of the group.)
Or, maybe you want to share the page itself, so you can ask people to like your page and see your posts in their newsfeed?
(E.g. you want to participate in a ‘like ladder‘).
The process for each of these varies, depending on whether you’re on Facebook using your computer, or via the mobile app. I’ll share the steps for both.
How to share your Facebook PAGE with your friends when you’re using Facebook on your computer:
There are two ways you can share your page:
- Tag your page in a post or comment
- Share the page URL
1 – How to tag your page in a post or comment.
Type ‘@’ then start typing the name of your page. You will see a list appear below, and you should select your page from this drop down list.
When you publish your post or comment, your page name will become a clickable link that when clicked, will lead directly to your page.
2 – How to share your page using your Facebook page’s unique URL
One of the steps you went through when you created your Facebook page was to choose a unique username. The username you chose became the part of your page URL that comes after the https://facebook.com.
When you share your page URL, people will be taken directly to your page.
To find your Facebook page’s unique URL, first, switch to using Facebook as your page by clicking on the upside down triangle on the top right hand side, wherever you are in Facebook, and selecting your page from the drop-down menu.
Now, look in the address bar at the top of your screen. You’ll see a URL that starts with ‘https://facebook.com/’ – copy the full URL and paste it into your post or comment.
This is my Facebook page URL:
I also recommend you save this link somewhere you can access it easily on your phone, so you can copy and paste the link quickly when you want to share your page URL but you’re using the mobile Facebook app.
Sharing the link to your page will enable people to visit your page by clicking on the link, but the pop-up shown above will only appear when you tag your page, not when you share the link.
How to share your Facebook PAGE with your friends when you’re using Facebook on the mobile app:
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this post (September 2016), you are unable to tag pages in posts or comments via Facebook’s mobile app.
If you’re accessing Facebook via the app on your phone or tablet, you will need to share the URL from step 2 above, hence my recommendation to save the URL on your phone somewhere you can copy and paste it easily.
If you want to share your page URL but haven’t saved the link (and don’t know if off by heart to be able to type it manually), then there is one workaround.
Open the Safari app on your phone, navigate to Facebook.com, click on the magnifying glass to open the search box, and search for your page name and click on it in the search results to open your page. Select and copy the URL from the address bar at the top of the screen, then go back to where you wanted to share your page, and paste the URL.
How to share a Facebook PAGE POST with your friends when you’re using Facebook on your computer:
First, switch to using Facebook as your page by clicking on the upside down triangle, top right of anywhere within Facebook, and selecting your page from the drop-down list (as per the image above).
Find the post you want to share, and just above the comments area, you will find a drop down selection that looks like this:
Hover over this drop down selection and you’ll see a message saying “Liking or commenting as [Your Page Name]”. If you do not edit this setting, any comments or likes you make on this post will show as coming from your page name. If you share the post without editing this setting, you’ll be sharing it with your page fans again, not your friends.
To edit this setting, click on the upside down triangle next to the image. You’ll see a drop-down menu that shows you a list of the pages you are an admin of. Your personal account is shown at the top of this list.
Select your personal account – shown as your name followed by (You).
You will now see that the image shown on the box is of your personal profile image.
Click on the ‘share’ button.
Select ‘Share on your timeline’ and in the ‘Say something about this’ area, write a short message to explain why you’re sharing the post – why should your friends take notice of this post?
When you hit the ‘Post’ button and privacy is set to ‘Friends’, your post will show to your friends in their newsfeed.
(See this post for how your post’s privacy settings dictate who can see your personal posts, and who can see comments you make on other people’s posts.)
How to share a Facebook PAGE POST with your friends when you’re using Facebook on the mobile app:
While you can share page posts with friends using the mobile app, you cannot share page posts in a group using the app. So if you see a page post that you want to share inside a Facebook group, you will need to wait until you’re back at your desk and logged into Facebook on your computer.
Click on the ‘Share’ button beneath the post, then select ‘Share on your timeline’. In the ‘Say something about this’ area, write a short message to explain why you’re sharing the post – why should your friends take notice of this post?
