On a PC or Mac, it’s easy to record videos showing your computer screen when you want to share a PowerPoint slideshow or demonstrate something online to create content for your online programs and membership sites.
But, there are times when you might want to record a video sharing your iPhone or iPad screen to demonstrate how to edit settings on a phone or how to use a specific app.
I’ve only recently discovered how to mirror your iPhone or iPad screen to your desktop, so in this post, I’ll reveal how you can create videos on your desktop that demonstrates something on your iPhone or iPad.
How to record a video sharing your iPhone or iPad screen
First, you’ll need to download the meeting software, Zoom, from zoom.us.
I use Zoom for all my online meetings now, in particular 1:1 calls with my private clients so we can screen share and I can record the calls so they get to keep the replay. I cancelled my GoToWebinar subscription ($97/month) and replaced it with Zoom ($14.99/month) a month or so ago.
You don’t need the paid version for sharing your phone screen by the way. Just be aware that the free plan has a 40 minute limit per meeting. If you know your video will be less than 40 minutes, and you’re happy with the free plan, don’t upgrade especially.
#1: Start a new meeting in Zoom.
#2: Inside the meeting screen, select ‘share screen’, and you’ll see a list of the sites/apps open on your PC or Mac. You’re looking for ‘iPhone/iPad’.
#3: Select iPhone/iPad’ and a set of instructions will appear on the screen.
#4: Both devices (PC/Mac and iPhone/iPad need to be on the same wi-fi network, so first it will ask you to make sure your IOS device is on the wi-fi network shown on the screen.
#5: Then, go to Settings > Control Center and swipe up from the bottom of the screen. I had to do this a couple of times to get the next menu to appear.
#6: On the next menu, you’ll see “Airplay off” on the right hand side, and on the left, you’ll see your Zoom meeting shown.
#7: Click on your Zoom meeting.
#8: Now, as you move around your iPhone/iPad, you’ll see your screen mirrored in front of you.

Next step if you’re creating a training video for your online program or membership site, is to hit the record button in your Zoom meeting. Move around the phone demonstrating what you want to teach until you’re finished. Stop the recording and let the video process.
You now have a MP4 file saved that you can upload to your preferred video host, or edit using your preferred video editor.
